How to dine out without breaking the bank

So you want to go to dinner, but you don't feel like breaking your budget, and leaving your wallet empty. With prices for just about everything going up, and a good meal proving to be expensive at times, how can you go out and still afford to do so? There are plenty of things that you can do to make sure that you can enjoy a good meal and not break the bank when you go out. Trust me, there are still plenty of good options out there for you.

You might not be able to get a fillet mignon every time you go out, but why can't you just enjoy a good burger? Most restaurants will have plenty of items on the menu for under ten dollars. You can get a good piece of fish, a big salad, or a juicy burger for under ten dollars in most cases. There are plenty of restaurants that even have some items on the menu that are on special, or offer meal combos that allow you to get almost anything you want for a good price.

Picking a good time to dine out is key in most situations. If you don't mind going out during the early hours of the evening you might be able to get some sort of early bird special. It might feel like only old people go to something like that, but what is so bad about an early dinner? You can get a good meal, and not have to break the bank for it. Also, if you can wait until after 9pm, you can get specials on meals and appetizers at most places. Some entrees might be up to half off after nine.

Try to get a gift card if at all possible. Gift cards to restaurants are typically given out at Christmas time, or for employee bonuses, and if you can get a gift card you are really saving. An entire meal or two could be on someone else if you get gift cards. The good thing about gift cards is that you can get them for just about any big restaurant. The store I work at sells Chiil's cards, as well as Applebees, Macaroni Grill, and other places people go to.

Stick to appetizers if you can, or some places will offer a portion of all the appetizers on the menu. This usually costs around ten dollars or so, and if you are just looking for a quick snack, you can fill up and not break the bank. Usually this super appetizers will feed almost everybody at the table, and with everyone pitching in it saves on costs for everybody.

Find a good place to dine, and find the best times to go for the best deals. Call ahead to see if there are any specials, or offers for people who either want to dine late, or dine early. Do your homework, and make sure you find the best deal so that you don't have to break the bank to go out. Restaurants want your money, and will do what they can to attract people during this recession.
