Alternatives to surrendering your pet

Suddenly, as Anne sat on her patio, a big tuxedo cat sprung onto her lap. It had been around before loudly crying for food but today it clearly wanted more. Knowing that it had to belong to a neighbor in her island community, Anne contacted security and put up posters. Finally a woman called asking Anne if she would keep PhatCat, explaining that her mother was dying and she could no longer care for it. For anyone like Anne's neighbor, who due to personal, financial or medical reasons face surrendering their pet some alternatives exist.

Pet Friendly Housing Help

Landlords today are more willing to accept pets when they receive a pet deposit. Apartment location agencies as well as on line at People with Pets or Rent with Pets assist in complimentary pet friendly housing location.

Pet Sponsors

Pets that provide companionship could provide part time companionship to someone disabled, handicapped or lonely who would be willing to help support the pet and act as a sponsor. Other sponsors might be school classes, sport teams, fire stations or churches.

Jobs for Pets

If the Sims 2 game pets have jobs so can real pets and they don't all have to be stars. Therapy animals are welcomed at most senior facilities and some medical facilities. It is a good idea for a therapy pet to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test. Therapy Dogs International is an additional resource.

Pets can provide miscellaneous services like rodent control, neighborhood and night watch. In some areas pets get paid for being a blood donor. If a pet does something unique or interesting film it and broadcast online for pay per click revenue or a flat fee. That same talent might be worth some money at a birthday party.

Service animals are very much in demand if the pet owner has enough time to go through the extensive training. Certified service animals are permitted everywhere their owner goes.

Pet Care

Any personal pet care like walking, administering medication, providing transportation or in home day care can be offered as services to other pet owners for payment.

Solutions for Behavior and Allergies

Contact a local humane society for help with behavior problems. Some humane societies, like the Michigan Humane Society, offer free phone and email consultations and tips. A veterinarian can recommend help with medically related behavior and allergy problems. Setting up allergy free zones, using HEPA filters and special pet washes can solve other allergy situations.
