If I had to name just one person that I would not want in my life as a friend, I would have to say that would be Gregory House. However, if I had to name just one person that I would want to be my medical doctor, I would have to say that would be Gregory House. I've always hoped that somehow, somewhere this TV series is based on reality just in case I do get some strange disease, I would be able to have this brilliant doctor diagnose me.
Without a doubt, House has the worst personality that I've ever seen portrayed by someone playing a "good" role in television. He shows no compassion, no sympathy, and absolutely no respect to anyone. He's your typical drug addict searching for his next fix. The only difference is, this man is brilliant. He can diagnose a disease from a mile away. If you happen to present a disease that he can't figure out, you can relax because you know he won't give up until he figures it out (whether you're dead or not, though he'd prefer you stay alive).
That's exactly why we love Gregory House. He seems to be cold to the point of having no heart, but when he loses a patient, you discover that deep down under his thick skin, he really does care. While Dr. House may treat his friends (if you can call them that) like chopped liver, every time any of them came close the point of dying, he was right there. He never left their side unless he knew they were going to be okay. Even for patients that he didn't know personally, his mind was constantly focused on their condition and what he could do to fix it. Nearly every episode, you would witness House in a conversation (or rather debate) with one of his "friends" and suddenly, he would experience an epiphany and race back to the patient's side to perform a treatment.
So while Dr. House may be made of 100% jerk material, he is also a great doctor. If I were his patient, I would be able to rest assured. I would know that my doctor wasn't out playing rounds of golf and drinking with his buddies, but that he was in his office with his team. He may be verbally stabbing them below the belt but it would be while they were working on my case.
