Good financial habits to develop

by Habib Maya

Created on: July 16, 2009

Imagine. You are sitting in your Home Office with a wooden L-shaped table staring at facts and figures. Across the window you see your significant other playing with the kids at the beach and you admire the beautiful view. You want to run to your kids but you cannot. You have a ten thousand dollars surplus in your bank account which needs to be put to work now or you could lose more money.

This is you, ten years from now. Things changed when you searched 'Good financial habits to develop' online and came across this article. This is high time ladies and gentlemen. This is the time to make a few simple tweaks in your life that will change your financial situation forever.

Here we go.

Learn to earn

A good financial habit to develop is to maximize your revenue. Now there are several ways to do this. I would suggest you rack your brain and find creative methods around you. One suggestion would be picking up another job or another shift which will help you earn more. My personal favorite thing to do is to invest in small increments. I sometimes pick up cheap wholesale things at Liquidation and sell them at EBay. Buying stocks is a great idea as well. If you have not reached a point where you can spare a few bucks for investment purposes, do not worry. After six months of reading this article, you will be able to have a few hundred dollars cash. Writing articles on Helium and freelancing online are aslso two good sources of revenue. Although I cannot go into details of how to earn more revenue, as this article is about developing good financial habits, you can do your own research in this area.

Minimize Your Costs

When you plan out your financial month (instructions on how to do that are given below), buy only the things you really need. Initially, you will need to cut down on everything but the basics (food and rent). After a couple of months, you might be able to move away from the rudimentary supplies.

Apart from carefully planning out your monthly finance, be sure to be aware of impulsive buying. I suggest you get rid of credit cards and use debit cards instead. Of course, it might take you some time to have money to get a debit card. But do not worry, you can get there. Another thing is to only keep your daily budget of cash with you, so you do not spend more than you are supposed to.

Plan out your financial month

Planning out a financial month seems simple, and it is for people who have developed good financial habits.
