I remember the day that I found out I was pregnant. It was an emotional time and being a first time experience I wanted everything to go perfect. Luckily for me I already had my baby's name picked out if it was a girl. I never gave any thought to a boy's name, so it is good that I ended up having a girl.
There is a lot in your name. A name may not define you, but on certain levels it can. I remember I received my name because my mom was addicted to General Hospital. My sister got her name from the reigning Ms. North Carolina that year. So what is the best way to to consider choosing a baby name? In my case, I had dreamed of this day so I sat and put names together that I liked. They had to flow. It was that simple. Need I remind you I did this a lot, doodling in the notebook. I had my children's name picked out before I even got married. It was after I was pregnant that I realized my husband needed a say in the name process too.
So here are a few tips.
There are baby name books out there. If you are spiritual you can find the name in the Bible. If someone has passed away in your family and you want to honor them, you can name the baby after them. It is what you are influenced by at the time that may make your decision. Keep this in mind, the baby has to grow up with this name. Be kind to your kid. Watch the initials that you give as well. A kid could get ridiculed with initials like KKK, HIV, STD, and etc.
Remember be kind, if you give your child a really long name, think about them in kindergarten when they have to spell it. Those are just technicalities. Pick a name that suits their character or what you want them to be. Don't make up weird names like lemonjello. Make up names that flow and are part of real names. Krystal and Ann are both names you really like but you want them as first names only. Combine them to make names like Krisalyn, Kristen, Krisa, etc.
Maybe you want to wait until your baby is born to look at them, and then decide the name they should have. There is no right or wrong way to name a child. If you are fashionable and a dynamic person, you may want a big flashy name for your child. If you are just a plain Jane down to earth person you may want a straight forward simple name. Always keep in mind that it takes two to make a baby, and it may take two to name the baby. If the situation is permissible ,of course. Brainstorm, brainstorm some more, when in doubt ask opinions on your choices.
