The UK has always been suspicious of continental powers combining in order to dominate the UK from a central European power base. The history of warfare during the bloodiest century, the 20th century, has certainly been due to Germany forming alliances. The Lisbon Treaty guaranties peace between European countries with mutual economic co-operation the primary purpose of the European Community.

Frau Angela Merkel, German Chancellor remains a calm and reasoned supporter of the E.U. Constitution which ensures the future expansion of the E.U. This move which was previously brought to prominence by the Irish Taoiseach Mr. B Ahern, requires all 27 E.U. States to ratify and adopt the E.U. Constitution in order for E.U. Parliament to operate legally and with majority membership approval.

Ireland held a referendum on ratifying the 2007 Lisbon Treaty and voted no to the treaty. This reflected a dissatisfaction with the Irish and E.U. ruling elite. Unlike the U.S. European citizens cannot elect a European President. The Lisbon Treaty referendum re-run in October 2009 requires the Irish electorate to vote again.

The U.K., Denmark and Sweden did not adopt the Euro, however they are firmly in the Euro zone so, payments may be made in Euro in these countries. Germany's population are eager savers, Ireland has been a net beneficiary of E.U. funding for infrastructural projects. Ireland joined the then E.E.C. along with the U.K. in 1973, since then Ireland has rapidly become the 2nd richest country in Europe. The burgeoning Irish construction industry accounted for 30% of GDP. Ireland experienced devastating emigration in the 50's,80's and 90's. Ireland was a dreadful place to live in during these times, suddenly everything changed for the better in 1995 and have improved ever since.

Ireland is fully cognisant of the incoming funds from Europe suddenly reversing, the Germans will want their money back. Ireland's balance of payments must ensure a 1.5 billion payment into E.U. coffers in 2007.

The Baltic States and Poland account for at least 250,000 immigrants into Ireland since 2000 clearly seeking a better life. Other non-E.U. immigrants ensure Ireland has at least 40,000 Chinese immigrants. The E.U. aspires to the Federated States of Europe thereby offering a 500 million population Euro trading block with all of its inherent language and cultural diversity which combine to deal with all major issues.
