Video game reviews: Killzone 2 (PS3)

If you are impressed by shinny objects and flashing lights then the graphics of "Killzone 2" may be enough to catch your attention, and if you are a huge fan of first person shooters looking for a few new levels to play then you may enjoy this. On the other hand, if you, like me, are looking for something to grab your attention because you have largely gotten over first person shooters then there is nothing to make you want to play "Killzone 2".

In the single player of "Killzone 2" you are on the side of the ISA. You begin by attacking a redeye base. Dropping out of the sky with your team you fight through an army of generic bad guys and then blow up a lightning gun. The weapons are generic, the game play is generic, in fact the only thing that I found that was truly new here was that on occasion you would grab things and turn them by turning the controller. This is gimmicky, annoying, slows down the play and adds nothing.

The graphics on the other hand are fantastic. You can see the eyes of your enemies, see the top of their heads as they duck behind things and it looks as if you are really there. The problem is that graphics to me have largely capped out in impressiveness. This is better than most other games I have seen, but those games were more than good enough. So if you want something to show off the power of the play station three and to impress people with the clarity of your new high definition TV then this is a game to look at.

In general the single player of most first person shooters is really a demo and training ground for multiplayer and Killzone is no different. The multiplayer is class based, with seven distinct classes. You can change classes as you go along. You will also get experience for completing objectives and getting kills.

The game play allows for up to thirty two players in a game, and bots can be used to allow for larger online games. This means that you have less failed to create game attempts than others and since the bots are roughly equal on each side it doesn't matter if you are better or worse than them.

There is nothing bad about "Killzone 2" but that is because the people who made it didn't seem to take any risks. This is a first person shooter without being much else. So if you're looking for a pretty first person shooter than works well but doesn't add much then this is the perfect game, if you're looking for originality move on.
