They are many cartoons out there in television land. And movie land. But so many are too violent or sexually oriented for small children to be viewing. The ones that are good and wholesome are shown very few times anymore. The best way to find them is to buy them on video or DVD. One channel that does continue to show several of the old cartoons that aren't so violent and disturbing is Boomerang.
Some of the better cartoons for kids in my opinion would have to be Bugs Bunny, Looney Tunes, Muppet Babies just to name a few examples. Ones such as these that are conveying good values to our children. Where they can learn things like friendship, teamwork, and how to share their stuff with others.
Cartoons like these are rare today. You have shows that have the characters cursing and back talking their parents. Disrespecting their friends. The main stars of the cartoons sometimes are shown beating each other or killing one another like it is humorous. Things like these are setting bad examples for the younger generation of viewers growing up today. When they watch these cartoons they may start to think that life is really like that. When they beat or kill one another they will think they can just start playing again later. Of course this is sadly untrue.
Cartoons should show children that it is alright to play with each other in a healthy manner. Ones that teach moral's and good qualities for life. They need to have the characters playing nicely together. Sharing their toys with one another. This will show children how they can enjoy life without violence and pain.
I think cartoons today should take a hard look at how children look at what they are airing on our television sets. At least we now have control settings to help parents decide what their kids can view. Cartoons have changed so much from when I was younger some of them I just don't understand. I guess it will be up to the parents what they will let their children watch.
Not all cartoons today are bad but the majority should not be seen by children younger than teens. The characters, plots, and drawings are all subjecting our kids to foul language, bad humor, and/or deadly messages. While I don't believe cartoons make children do the exact same thing they are showing on the air. I believe they influence certain behavioral patterns that are disturbing to see our smaller kids displaying. I feel some cartoons should not be shown to children at all. However adults should have the opportunity to decide the ultimate outcome of what their children will watch cartoons or otherwise. So I say the best cartoons for children are the ones with mild or no violence. Definitely not the ones showing bloody killings and ripped apart characters. The foul language shows should be left to the adults viewing pleasure not the kids. Thanks.
