Why should you cycle to work in London
The idea might sounds a bit crazy in this big and busy city but there are couple of good reasons why you should try. First of all this could be one of the fastest ways for you to get to work and back without any hassle. You only need a bike, some courage and to make the decision. Many people make this decision quickly, they start cycling, doing it for a few days or weeks and then they slowly get back to driving their cars. Here are the benefits why you shouldn't give up after a couple of rainy days.
You can avoid the morning and evening madness on public transports. Trains and metros are overcrowded and sometimes you can't get on the coaches as it's too full. Holding your breath for the whole journey can be an unpleasant option while you are squeezed between hundreds of other people. Not to mention if the services are running late or you have to change trains in a busy station. Buses sometimes can't keep their schedule time because of the traffic, so using them probably you will have to leave earlier to get to work on time.
Cycling keeps you in a good shape, so you don't have to worry about going to the gym after work, saving some time what you can spend with your family. You can use different routes to cycle to discover little and quite roads or take the familiar same way every day. It gives you a break from work and other things you are worried about as your mind can float away while your body gets a good work out. Of course you have to pay attention to the traffic. You won't be exposed to catch flu and other viruses which are spreading in the air, especially where there are lots of people together in a small place.
Cyclists can take over the queuing cars while the angry and stressed drivers are sitting in their vehicles helplessly. At last but not least it can save you a lot of money as you won't have to spend on travel cards. After three or four months of cycling you will save the price of a middle range bike you bought. Or if you already have a bike you can start saving from the first day.
Cycling is definitely an eco friendly way to go to work and a after a couple of weeks you will see familiar faces on your way every morning in the same time and same place. Probably it is a good idea to have a waterproof jacket, a bottle of water, pump and maybe a spare inner tube in your backpack just in case.
