Catholics: Is it time for women priests

From the beginning, the Catholic church has claimed that it is the Church established by Jesus Christ and that through the teachings of the Apostles, transmitted first orally and then written down in the Bible, it can teach about spiritual matters with authority. The Church has so clearly taught that only male persons may be priests that to change now, to start ordaining women as priests, would be the same as saying that the Catholic church does not have teaching authority, was not established by Jesus Christ, and that Catholic teachings are just opinions of mortal men, subject to change.

If that is in fact the case, the question arises: why become or remain a Catholic? There are plenty of other man-made religions out there that are younger and sexier and don't raise uncomfortable feelings of guilt when you do wrong things. Why not pick one of them instead? Or why not do without religion altogether if none are true?

Let's look at what has happened to the Anglican church. It's made a progression from woman priests to sexually unchaste Gay priests, to proposing that some aspects of Shariah law should apply in England. What has happened to Anglicanism? People- including feminists, Gay people and the politically correct, are staying away from church in droves. And the Anglicans who are still interested in religion are turning away from Anglicanism and reconciling with the Catholic church.

What would happen if the Catholic refuge is closed off by the Catholic church giving in on women priests, Gay priests, priest who don't actually believe in God, all in the name of fairness? I think we can expect rather than drawing in new members, the Church will lose those who believe in the current teachings of the Church. Where will the traditional Catholics go when the Church fails them? One can envision large 'Neo-Catholic' cathedrals empty of worshippers while traditional Catholics- who helped build those cathedrals- have nowhere to pray.

For the modern person raised not to question any aspect of feminism, the teaching that only males can be priests is a hard one. It seems very unfair. But think on this: if God wanted a priesthood with gender-equality, why didn't He say so in his 33 years living on Earth as a man? Did He lack the courage to do so? He certainly didn't have any trouble saying many other things that offended the religious leadership of the day. (Some, of course, don't believe that Jesus was God. But if the Catholic church is wrong on this one, it should just plain stop existing.)

Another unfair thing that few talk about is that the Blessed Mother, Mary the mother of Jesus, was a woman. No male was eligible for the role of giving human life to the Son of God. Men were entirely excluded from this most important deed in human history. No male ever born has the place in salvation history that Mary does. Unfair!

Do you strongly believe that the Catholic church must be made to accept women priests? Why? If you are currently a member of the Catholic church, you can find all the woman priests you want in your nearest Episcopal or Anglican church. In those churches, you can participate in worship services similar to the Catholic Mass, without supporting the Evil Catholic Sexism you decry. You can have everything you want in a church- without taking away the church that is beloved by the growing number of traditional Catholics, and denying them the chance to worship as they please.
