Poetry: Worlds away

WORLDS AWAY

I recall a happy-go-lucky little girl who had laughter in her heart,

And innocent love that overflowed on to every soul she touched.

She could turn a rainy day to sunshine with her infectious smile

And words like I love you Daddy, I love you so very much.

Her silly giggles made me tremble with the pride of fatherhood.

But her tears left me weak as they tore my heart from my chest

And I would search for any solution to console her and cheer her

Believing a father's love could lay her fears and sorrows to rest.

Where is she now? This grown woman before me is in a world of her own.

A world of nightmares and horror, a world of her choice, of her making,

A world with no room for family or love or compassion or caring.

Where she dwells alone while we feel our hearts helplessly breaking.

She does not care about the grieving or the hearts she has broken,

Or the child who cries in silence, the child who is the mirror image of

Her mother, the one who no longer exists except in our memories, replaced

By this tortured creature who does not hear our pleas for her love.

She rejects our attempts to help and pushes us away with obscenities

Of hate that flow from that once innocent mouth like the raging wind

Of a hurricane's waves pounding relentlessly upon cities along the shore.

It is not our girl spewing this filth but the demon of drugs deep within.

So far our prayers go unanswered, and we live in this world torn asunder,

We know we cannot help her by our prayers alone and feel God is guiding our way

So now we lay our problems at His feet and trust Him with our precious daughter

Lord, bring her back into this world of our love, please God beginning today.
