The benefits and risks of liposuction

As has been noted in so many articles, books and other media outlets, liposuction is fast becoming one of the most highly sought cosmetic surgery procedures in the developed world. Many people think of liposuction as an easy way to shed the final pounds after losing weight, or even a method of weight loss all in itself. For anyone considering this type of surgery, it is pertinent to remember that liposuction must be performed in moderation and is not a method of weight loss alone. There are many surgeons all over the world that simply refuse to perform this, or similar, surgery on someone who has not made previous attempts at weight loss.

It is a common misconception that liposuction is a minor surgery with only minor risks. While the benefits of this surgery are vast, so are the risks and dangers involved. Anyone who might consider liposuction to be an option for their weight loss endeavour should also carefully weight the benefits against the risks. Here are a few points to consider from each aspect.

Benefits:

1) immediate removal and reduction of fat tissue
During liposuction, fat tissue is removed with the use of a hollow tube (usually made from stainless steel) called a cannula. This means that the patient is no longer working to burn that fat tissue away with exercise, but using that exercise to now tone and shape their body.

2) simple cellulite removal
There's no question about it, cellulite is definitely the most unwanted of blemishes a person could find on their bodies. It is hard to burn away with diet and exercise, and there are only a handful of products and procedures that actually reduce and remove cellulite at the source. Liposuction is one of the most effective methods of cellulite removal.

3) improvement in general health
Most liposuction patients find that within six months of the surgery, their general health improves greatly. The most common improvements include a healthier blood pressure level, the ability to partake in physical activity with less shortness of breath and lower cholesterol, among many others. This immediate removal of fat tissue also reduces the patient's risk of contracting certain illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, and even specific cancers.

4) Vast area of operation
There aren't many parts of the body that cannot treated by liposuction. Most commonly, this surgery is performed around the lower torso zone and thighs but can also be applied to areas such as the ankles, knees, upper arms, and even areas of the face
