Why random drug testing is unconstitutional? Yes it is for me, you, police, everyone. Most every occupation is getting randomly tested therefore, police should be on top of the list no holds barred. Especially State Troopers because they drive their cruisers home and for casual use, while their automotive insurance is covered by taxpayers.
Following is a copy of what my testimony would have been if the Public Safety Committee of the Connecticut Legislature did not throw my idea out.
I am here to voice my support of bill #6205 that is currently being proposed by the towns of Dayville and Windham. This bill proposes mandatory by law random drug tests, including for Anabolic Steroids for all town and state police. We find that the laws do not specifically exclude police, which to us means they should be included for the following reasons, and must take precedence.
Research shows that abuse of anabolic steroids may lead to aggression and other adverse effects. For example, many users report feeling good about themselves while on anabolic steroids, but extreme mood swings can also occur, including manic-like symptoms that could lead to violence.
Researchers have also observed that users may suffer from paranoid jealousy, extreme irritability, delusions, and impaired judgment stemming from feelings of invincibility. In turn this is a public safety hazard.
The main cause for Random testing is the job being a Safety Sensitive occupation, which police fall under this category. Other reasons why police should be tested are:
1) Anyone that drives for public service gets randomly tested. Police are Public Service besides having option to do their duty anytime during a 24 hour day plus many work double shifts.
2 They must be alert at all times during to what could be a dangerous job.
3) They carry guns.
4) They have power to arrest while upholding the law.
5) They have the option to drive faster then most; its part of the job sometimes.
6) They drive for a living [note]; most that drive for a living must partake in random drug testing therefore police should do so.
Police are arresting people for drugs so let's make sure our police are not doing drugs. Plus they have access to drugs then most other occupations.
Some may be taking Anabolic steroids to muscle themselves up. This steroid is a most dangerous drug. When the person/s consumes it, their adrenaline flow makes the person mean, almost vicious. As tax paying citizens we believe it borders being corrupt
