The danger of tasers as reflected in recent news stories

In the past I have written articles on this very subject right here on Helium.

The battle between police vs. citizens remains at a stand still on this issue. Over the years I, personally have expressed many concerns about cowboy cops with little respect for authority, their position of authority, or the laws they swear to uphold.

Every day in my community I see cops use their sirens, and lights to blow through red lights, speed without being on call, and continue to disregard the safety of the citizens they took an oath to protect.

The taser itself is a remarkable weapon, and if it has become a weapon of choice for our police force, then their fire arms are no longer necessary.

Rough cops like the drunk off-duty officer that beat a bartender for abiding by the law and refusing to serve him because he was already severely intoxicated, are encouraged by the judges that provide for them either excuse and relief from prosecution, or minimal consequence for their offense.

Thanks to the information age, and through Yahoo Alerts, I receive multiple stories concerning this very issue daily. I've received these alerts for more than year now, and by my count, the abuse of this weapon of choice by our police, has escalated astronomically over the last year.

The deliberate destabilization of the delicate balance once thought to be important between civil and policing forces has led us to this type of debate. There are very few protections left for a civilian to be able to take if a police officer harasses them, or wrongly detains them, or confiscates money, jewelry, or even your car, without justifiable criminal cause.

The superiority complex, condoned by your local judges, mayor, and aldermen, has gone unchallenged for far too long.

If a citizen is afraid of their fellow citizen, and afraid of the police, where are they supposed to turn for protection?

The elected officials in your community are the one's encouraging violations by the police, and condoning these violations by refusing to hear harassment cases, or hand down harsh penalties for a police officer engaging in criminal, dangerous behavior.

If you are concerned at all about the mental capacity of your township's police to perform their duties under duress, and their ability to use judgement before attack, then you need to look at your public, elected officials to see what they have in the past done to correct this problem.

If there is little to no action taken against the police who violate the law
