Poetry: Human understanding

THE NEXT SUNRISE

The morning mist is clearing now

And the deer are on the move.

You hear the lonely call of a cow

Your surrounds you could not improve.

Hear the soft sigh of a breeze

As it drifts throughout the hills.

The incessant droning of the bees

As they use their gathering skills.

Your horse is tired after a long night's ride

You've been away too long from home.

Your dog's tongue lolling as he walks by your side

You vow you will no longer roam.

But the call of the bush is so strong in your veins

It is something you cannot diffuse.

With your horse, your dog and your hands on the reins

It's a life you cannot refuse.

So try to understand when I say I can't stay

Let me go without tears in your eyes.

Wave me goodbye when I next go away,

Let me look to the next sunrise.
