NASCAR's recent changes and their impact

Changes for the Chase were needed and as a diehard fan I welcome them. Last years season proved to be a milestone in the Chase, being the 3rd season since the Chase was implemented but more importantly the failure to recognize points for winning a race. The top 10 would have been far different and current champ Jimmie Johnson would have had a bigger challenge on hand. The new format will bring a fresh approach giving more drivers an opportunity to make the Chase.

The Cot [Car of Tomorrow] is NASCAR's way of implementing a safer race car. Dale Sr.'s tragic death has brought many safety changes to the sport with safety barriers and other measures to increase the safety of the lives of the drivers. There is nothing like a good crash, but it's nice to know that the drivers chances of getting seriously hurt have been minimized drastically.

Another big change to watch this season is the Rookie roster. It's going to prove exciting to watch these guys... some with extensive experience from other racing circuits and some without.

And lets not forget Toyota's entry into NASCAR. This will certainly change marketing expenses as we all know how deep their pockets are.

I look forward to the 2007 NASCAR season as a season of excitement!
