Color is an important aspect when you feng shui a room or a house. Starting with the room or house empty is the best way to feng shui an area, but for most of us that is not practical. The first thing that must be determined is how the room is being used, is it an office, bedroom or living area? If at all possible empty a room before painting, an empty room will be full of sheng chi because chi may flow freely around the room.
The colors of yin bring healing and relaxation, yang is the colors of fire and wood, providing enthusiastic positive energy enhancing the ability to accomplish a job or as a motivating influence in your office or the prosperity area of your home. This relationship between colors and feng shui is easier to understand if we use examples, the feng shui descriptions provided below for each color will assist you in using colors to your advantage.
Blue has yin energy and would be an excellent color in either den or bedroom, any shade of blue is calming, soothing and stress relieving. Love is represented by blue in feng shui and holds great significance, it manifests love as a healing and relaxing state of being. Varying shades of light blue will create a feeling of peace and trust.
Slightly darker deeper blues symbolizes the color of the sea and sky, creating a sense of and an associated with adventure and exploration. A deep luxurious navy blue is the color of intellect and wisdom and should be used in offices or where creativity is desired. Black is the color of prosperity and represents money and income, black is the best color to use in the career area of your office or home, adding metal enhances black when the two are used in combination. Black is also great when used for emotional protection and power.
Associated with spiritual awareness and healing, purple lies at the end of the color spectrum and holds vital significance in Feng Shui. It is used to promote physical and mental health and healing. Confidence, poise and purity is symbolized by the color white (some call white the non-color), it is used mostly in combination with silver and gold to generate a calming atmosphere, but when used with any other color white has a uplifting, calming effect on the other color.
Yellow in feng shui is auspicious when tinted with a fiery red. Sunbeams, warmth, motion, cheerfulness and friendliness are the colors of yellow, but be extremely careful however, prolonged exposure to large amounts of intense yellow energizing chi will cause anxiety and restlessness. Organization, concentration, creativity and your sense of purpose are all strengthened by the color orange. This yang color is full of sheng chi energy and holds powerful significance in feng shui, it replenishes your creative well. Orange is the perfect color for any one who works from an office at home.
Always remember the colors you use must be colors you will be able to look at, colors that make you feel good. Feng shui is a philosophy of well being, harmony and peace, if a color does not build those feelings in you then it is the wrong color.
