The World Wide Web has the potential of a gold mine where communication is concerned. Whether it is through your business website where you sell chairs or your personal profile webpage to upload pictures of your sweet goat, the fact remains that you can reach hundreds of millions of viewers any second. In order to do that, you must have a webhost.
The type of webhost you choose depends on your needs. I can classify budget webhosts into two types:
1) Ones that you get for free
2) Ones that you have to pay small amount for
You would opt for the first category if your budget is close to zero. However, although these webhosts are free, most of them have advertisements like pop up banners on them.
Free webhosts include tripod (http://tripod.lycos.com), Bravenet (www.bravenet.com), www.freewebspace.net, and www.angelfire.com. All of these websites have limited bandwidth, limited storage space, and very annoying advertisements. My suggestion would be that they are best only if the viewers you target are people that love you to death or you wish to annoy to death (Sweet aunts fall in both of these categories). I cannot suggest one of the above, as all of them are decent as far as zero-pricing is concerned.
However, if you are willing to pay for webhosting, then there are tremendous services out there that you might want to choose from. The number one webhost I have ever come across is powweb (www.Powweb.com). Powweb provides all the goodies that you might use to host your website for one of the lowest prices I have ever seen. Not only are the storage disk space and bandwidth unlimited, but the package also includes one free domain and supports PHP and CGI servers - all for $4/month! I strongly suggest you check out Powweb (and surf their message boards for questions) if you are interested.
Other great webhosts include www.1and1.com, www.hostway.com, and www.serverseek.com. Check them out, although my bias is probably clear towards powweb.
Note: Although many webhosts, including Powweb, offer unlimited storage space, I would like you to know that such a thing is impossible. My experience with Powweb has been brilliant, although other webhosts who promise this may under-deliver.
If you are not satisfied with my analysis, I suggest that you research further. www.hostreview.com is one place which will guide you towards multiple webhosts and provide reviews for them.
