Is there such a thing as a true American? Whenever someone asks what nationality you are, what do you say? Italian, polish, German, or whatever their grandparents is always the answer.

Why do people born in America always answer this question in a way to avoid saying they are American. When a person is born in England, they are English. Someone born in Italy, they are Italian. So shouldn't a person born in America be called an American?

Are the people ashamed to call themselves American? All of our ancestors came here from other countries looking for a better life. They were looking for something better than they had in their home countries. Coming to America meant a new life and a new beginning.

A lot of the polish immigrants came here with long names that ended with sky, ski, and so on. A good majority of them shortened their names to sound more American. These same people will still say they are Polish and not American.

These people came to a land where there were already people living. Those people were happy with their own lifestyles and cultures. Native Americans welcomed these strangers with kindness and opened arms. Without the Indians, these strangers would not have learned how to plant crops and survive the harsh winters. In return the Indians were pushed out of their lands. All of the good land was taken away from them.

They were told that they had to conform to the ways of these new people. Indians were encouraged to mix their race with the new race and abandon their customs. Indians were treated like slaves, and killed when they tried to hold on to their culture. Now the Native Indians were the true Americans. That was a few hundred years ago.

There is only a small population of Indians today. These people are still living substandard in comparison to both the Caucasian and the Black American. The Black Americans still trying to call themselves African. Granted, the Black American didn't particularly want to come here in the beginning, but still they are here. The American Indians didn't ask either of them come here, but still they are here.

The most amazing thing is that both these races are living better than the race that all this land was taken away from.

Imagine what it would feel like if a visitor ever came to your home and told you that you would have to move out of your bedroom to let them sleep there. How would it feel if you were told that your lifestyle was not as good as theirs and you would have
