Take some time one day and look back at the pictures of yourself and your spouse back in the days you were dating. Yes, you looked definitely younger, of course, but do you notice something else? If you look very carefully you will likely see a special spark in your eyes, your skin looked brighter and your over all facial expression was almost as genuine as the one of a child. Why is that?
Very likely it was the work of art of a mix of hormones, the willingness to go an extra mile to look great for each other and a natural tendency to laugh, live and love. Indeed, when one falls in love it is almost as if returning to a child like state. You laugh more, do crazy things and enjoy life like if it was renewed from the eyes of a child. Very likely, you were having the fun of your life, just as when you were a child many years ago.
If you think of it, you hardly do any of those crazy things you used to do with your spouse. Remember when you were walking in the rain and cared less about that approaching storm? Do you remember running breathless across the fields to find a secluded spot to exchange a kiss? And what about simply walking hand in hand on those beautiful trails with breath taking views? When was the least time you ever did that again?
It is sad that often these are old memories locked up in our hearts and let behind on memory lane. How about reviving them again? It may feel unnatural at first because both you and your spouse have comfortably adjusted to the boring routines of every day life. But what if you give a try, for just this one time, and see how it feels?
Try to head to the beach and play with the waves. Walk barefoot in the tall grass on that mountain top. Or simply dance together as you did in the old days along with that favorite love song. You may be happy to rediscover long left behind behind emotions that you thought were left in the past. It does not have to be this way! You and your spouse are still entitled to have fun as in the old days.
Set up the element of surprise and at least once a month set up a date with no idea where the destination is. Simply fill out a jar with places to go and pick one out blind folded. Stick to it and enjoy the evening. Have the kids at grandma's for the evening and enjoy an evening just nurturing your love and engaging in fun activities.
Have fun, impress each other with humor just as the old times. Very likely as a couple you started laughing less and less as years went by. Instead, tickle your brain cells with innocent humor. Bring back the old jokes that made your spouse laugh her head off or simply celebrate each other with a candle light dinner at home. Have fun and relax. The night is all yours, no dishes to wash, no lunches for the next day to prepare. Just you and your loved one.
As seen, the fun old times are not buried in the past. All you need to do as a couple is rediscover the laughter, joy and fun as in the old days. It does not take that much of effort. Yet, it is great to realize that even though years go by the element of fun and surprise is still there. It is totally up to you to dig it out and bring it back to life!
