The 1980's were a pinnacle point in fashion history, boundaries had been pushed and now they are being stretched to their limits with pipe jeans, rocker clothing and big hair.
Fashion rules were spat at and torn up; the glamorous images of people like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe were pushed aside and replaced by other iconic people like Joan Jett and Madonna.
Although 2009's fashion scene is a remembrance and hint of the 80's it is not exactly the same. The ostentatious looks of the 80's would not be replicated exactly and are instead improved on with modern twists. Retro looks are in and modern sleek and simple looks have been thrown away.
The best clothing/ accessories item that has made their 2009 re-debut has to be Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses. Images of A list celebrities re-inventing the look with rolled up sleeves of blazers have encouraged other people to buy them. They are an item that every fashionista must have in their wardrobe.
Another item of clothing that has been re-instated is jumpsuits. Throw in a plain tee underneath, a plaid handbag, a black trilby hat and a killer pair of heels can make even the best dressed people cry for mercy. Jumpsuits can range in colors so be careful to pick one that complements your eye or hair colour. And if you don't have the goods then please beware, they can make you look hideous if you don't have the right physique.
One of my favorite items of clothing that was before the 80's but made its mainstream debut is Converse/All stars. these classic shoes are a must have and a definite for 2009, paired with a pair of skinny jeans and a casual tee and blazer you can rock the look no matter what the size or shape. The iconic shoes attract a-list celebs and aren't expensive at all, you can get a pair for just 12 bucks!
One of the most hated items of clothing from the 80's has also made its way back into the low budget stores of today. The leg warmers not only protect your ankles they add colour to your legs. The famous leg wear was made popular by Madonna; thanks to her our feet will stay toasty and dry. In a range of colors the leg warmers are a definite faux pas in the fashion industry and if not warn with the right outfit can be a complete disaster!
Finally on the plus side, the 80's fashion has given us many an upside to look forward to, like neck wear, jewelry and hair styles. Good luck to us in the future of the fashion industry.
