As she climbed her way down the jagged rocks, her heart rate increased with the promise of warm sand beneath the soles of her feet. It had been a few days since she last visited the place she felt most comfortable; a few days too many. She stopped once she reached the sand and basked in the shining sun as it warmed her sking and lifted her spirits once again. The breeze wrapped its cooling arms around her bare neck and embraced her like no human ever could; its hug gave her a calming comfort that made her feel perfectly at ease. Inch by inch she would move closer to the crystal-like water in anticipation of what lied ahead. Off the ledge of the small incline she would leap, piercing beneath the surface of where all her troubles awaited her. Below the surface of the water, no one or anything could reach her, and she felt safe even if just for that brief moment before she had to come back up for a breath. She floats down like a rock until her feet feel the slimy sensation of moss on the rocks below. She then exhales just enough air to keep her grounded on the ocean floor and opens her eyes wide. She moves her fingers through the water like a fish, and her hair floats like sea-weed; she becomes one with the water and imagines she is part of the grandeur body of life that is the sea. Short for breath, the propels towards the surface and when her body reaches the surface she fills her lungs with enough oxygen to where she can descend once more. She paddles back down to the bottom, and gently caresses the mixture of rocks and sand at the bottom of the ocean. She then reaches her destination and comes above the water once again. Surfacing the water, she climbs upon a small area of land that couldn't even be described as an isand, but is was her sanctuary. As she lay on her back, sun drying her soaked skin, she listens to the silence of complete isolation. She likes it here, her surroundings are quiet like her, and here she feels complete. Every so often, the silence is broken by a splash; she glances up and sees the dolphins that have made this small mountain-gulf their home; she smirks and watches them, wishing she could be as free and wild as they are. Soon, they disappear beneath the water, and she is alone once again. The wind whispers sweet nothings into her ear and soothes her worried mind. She imagines it is her mother whispering into her ear, like she used to do long ago when they would venture to the beach in the distance. Years had passed since her mother had died, but when she came to this place she could feel her mother all around; like she was part of the sea, which meant she was still a part of her life. Peering towards the horizon, the sun began to merge with the curvature of the earth, and she knew it was time to head inland before the tide rolled in and swallowed her sanctuary til morning. She slid beneath the cool liquid, once more, and let it lift her already light body like a feather. She gently kicked her feet, as to make it back to shore as slowly as possible, and stared into the darkening sky. About the same time as the brightest start would appear she would reach the sand, and as she stood up she would glance at the cliff that she had propelled off of earlier in teh day. She longed for the moment her body would fly off the edge and pierce the water like a knife one again. This beach was where she had first felt safe, and throughout her time here she had become a part of the sea; without it, she was without identity, she was nothing.
