As a behavior that is no longer socially acceptable, there have been many products and services released on the retail market to aid people with the challenge of quitting smoking. Many of the products commonly used, such as gums or patches, contain the very substance the user is trying to kick an addiction from - nicotine. In these products, nicotine is released into the system gradually to prevent the person from feeling withdrawal and cravings. Over time, the dose lessens the amount of nicotine being absorbed into the body until it is entirely eliminated from day to day life.
Laser therapy has introduced a new philosophy to the industry that supplies products to aid in quitting smoking. By using laser technology to stimulate certain acupuncture points in the ears, face, arms, hands and legs, the body secretes natural chemicals and endorphins that block nicotine receptors and thus lessen the cravings and withdrawal symptoms experienced when a person quits smoking.
One of the common misconceptions about laser therapy being used as a quit smoking aid is that is is fully effective immediately. Many people find that they need second or third sessions in order for their body to continue producing the chemicals that block nicotine receptors. Most laser therapy providers who offer the service as a method to quit smoking usually include at least one additional session after the initial.
Over the past several decades, the science behind using laser therapy as an aid for those who would like to quit smoking has been developed thoroughly. Specifically, this method has been designed to work as modern-day acupuncture and produces many of the same results. Patients of laser therapy often report feeling relaxed and refreshed after their sessions.
All over the world, laser therapy has been introduced as an effective way for people to succeed when they attempt to quit smoking. On average, one of these sessions costs approximately $300-$500 USD and may include other services such as weight management laser therapy or stress management. Many clinics offer a second "booster" session included in this cost, provided the patient has remained smoke free since the initial appointment.
In order for laser therapy to really succeed as a quit smoking aid, the patient must truly want to quit smoking. Like any other method, someone who does not want to quit won't and there is nothing that can be done to change that fact.
