Well one of the most rewarding and captivating destinations for families to see in Ohio is right in the Amish community. Here you can see how Amish live and what life used to be like and watching the Amish dress different than we do since they speak a dialect of German and have a German accent when speaking English. The woman still wear dresses that are hand-made while the men are still wearing hand made pants and shirts too. They drive around in their horse and buggies still and work extremely hard for their meals and clothing. This is a very interesting vacation to see and capture because it's not everyday you can visit an Amish.

So, if you head up to Mesopotamia, Ohio where there is the End of General Commons store their that is ran by the Amish. You can either schedule the tour through the Amish community on a tour bus or you can take the nice drive out in the country to explore the Amish community and country by yourself and take in the life they live. Mesopotamia, OH is the 4th largest Amish community in the United States and the 2nd largest in Ohio.

So you can head out to the End of the Commons general store there in Mesopotamia, fill up for some gas watch the Amish tie their horse and buggies up to the pole outside in a certain area and take in the beautiful green scenery and watch the Amish walk around and drive around in their horse and buggy. Inside the General Store you can find handmade snacks that the Amish make with their no electricity and old fashioned chewing gum, antiques and gifts to remember this vacation by. After you sit outside and eat their delicious ice cream and watch all the Amish it will now be time to get into the car or tour bus and head on down the street where you will more than likely have to get behind a horse and buggy which doesn't go very fast and then pass at a great opportunity.

You can stop and shop and an Amish store for food and see their means of running a store which they have no electricity so they have sky lights and lanterns that will burn in the evening for some light. Here you can experience Amish hand made crafted items like furniture of top wood, quilts, blankets, harnesses for their horses, etc. Very gifted and beautiful findings you can find. Then for your lunch you can hop on over to Mary Yoder's country kitchen where you can taste first hand an Amish made meal from scratch and see how they cook and their means of life. When it's all said and done you can drive to the next town, Burton, OH and walk through 100 years of history and take photos and see the architecture and landscape as the Amish are still roaming around in their horse and buggies.

If you are lucky you may even find the Amish school where the children may be out playing or to see an Amish funeral or even an Amish wedding. They all wear the same things. The women wear dresses and bonnetts and don't cut their hair while men wear pants and a shirt. So, this is a very captivating life experience that not everyone gets to experience and a great vacation. Quite and peaceful and full of beauty.
