Card game reviews: Uno

The game of Uno is a great game to play because it can be easily learned and yet provides lots of entertainment. It also can be played with more players than many games. For young players it also has an element that is very underrated. You get to screw over other players. That is why games like Outburst and Apples to Apples are popular among young adults though they seem simple and maybe even childish in nature. That little bit of tension creates rivalry which makes you want to win which keeps you playing. Uno is great for this. Another great thing about Uno is that all you need are the cards. No elaborate boards or set ups are necessary. The simplicity is one of its greatest draws.

The game begins with players getting 7 cards. ( You can also play with five or eleven any number you want really, just know the more cards you have the longer the game will last) You set down the remaining deck and flip the top card face up. The first player (a girl if chivalry is alive) may either put down a card that matches that one in color or number (i.e. a blue four on a red four). The player may also lay down a trump card such as a draw two, a draw four, a skip, or a reverse. These cards are pretty self explanatory.(again the simplicity is great ,for both kids or drunk adults), but if for some reason you cannot expound on the idea of what to do when someone drops a reverse card, it means play changes to the opposite direction.

Play continues to the right or left. It really doesn't matter at all but in our society we seem to usually move clockwise, to the left. The object of the game is to get rid of all of the cards you are holding. HERE IS THE THING TO REMEMBER! When you get down to one card left, please, for god's sake, say Uno. Don't wait, say it as you put your second card down. I have seen way to many arguments over who said uno first, so just do it immediately. Yes usually with alcohol involved. But I have also thrown fits over the fact that "no dad, mom did not say it first". If you choose not to, your fellow players with revel in the fact that you will get to pick up four more cards, or any amount agreed upon, and be that much further from winning the game. SAY UNO!

You and your friends will love this game. You can keep a deck of cards in your car in case you get bored one day or just love the game. Both kids an adults can play together and have a great time. It is a fast paced, easy to learn game that will keep you yelling Uno!
