The Nintendo Wii was indeed "Different" from other video game consoles when released, but the unique control method does by no means make it a niche gaming system. The PS3 has introduced the dual shock controllers in the past and they have worked decently with a few of the games, and I personally believe that when Microsoft releases there new project http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/projectnatal/ that the Nintendo Wii will be virtually obsolete. The new technology in use for Project Natal is so much more advanced than the Wii that everyone will realize that Nintendo is getting boring and they will want to go play Xbox! Holding a controller and throwing something is great and all, but when you can play with no controller at all it is truly an amazing thing!

The Nintendo Wii did have more sales than it's competitors but you have to notice the fact that most of the people buying it were parents that were begged continually in times of holiday by their children to go out and get them the new console that has all those little kid games on it. Ex. SpongeBob, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Avatar. These boosted up sales while the video game producers for the more violent hardcore games on the Xbox 360 and PS3 were in the making.

Truly my point of this is that just because they made a new controller/nunchuck and were able to make the games interactive doesn't make it the best thing for it's time. The true gamers out there go for the games that are most fun to play and usually the ones with the best graphics. Obviously the Nintendo graphics are not ahead of their time like they used to be in the SNES era. So I say if you really want to know what are going to be the best, most sold, most played, favorite games in the end then it will be the ones that the producers didn't just throw together real quick and add some nunchuck controls in.

Recently a game was released for the Xbox 360 with the name of Red Faction: Guerilla. This game is one that took a few years to create and it has been a big hit ever since it was released, mainly because it gives gamers what they want... Completely Destructable Environment, and a "Destroy to Win" kind of sense. This is the type of Niche Game that will make a lot of money and be favored by many people through the years. Most of the audience is only guys ranging from age 13-40 but the numbers add up. Another game that was on top for probably the longest time I have ever witnessed is Halo. This game was on top for so many years using only the same xbox controllers for halo 1 and 2 then a slightly different model with the xbox 360 for halo 3. Online play and total disc copies sold were tremendous numbers. All I ever heard was how it constantly broke records, a lot of the time the records were already set by the games that came out recently in the series. This just goes to show that you do not need any unique controls to have a niche gaming system.
