Islamic dress code is another string in the long and comprehensive chain of provisos of Quran that encompass every aspect of life. Some aspects were further defined and elaborated through the exemplary life of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). In doing so, Islam has often touched upon such minor details of conduct, where other religions haven't remotely addressed the issue. Elaborate definition of Islamic dress code in Quran and its finer details by the Prophet is one such example.

Lesser understanding of Islam has led to many non-Muslims and even some Muslims believe that the Islamic dress code is limited to wearing headscarves and Hijab by Muslim women. Nevertheless, it is shallow view of the whole truth. Islam defines a dress code both for men and women and equally assigns the responsibity to both genders for maintaining modesty in the society. Where it commands women to cover themselves, it also commands men to lower their gaze, when some woman is around.

Quran defines Islamic dress code in these words "And tell the believing men to lower their gaze and be modest. That is purer for them. Lo! Allah is aware of what they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display of their adornment only that which is apparent, and to draw their veils over their bosoms, and not to reveal their adornment save to" [those relatives who fall within bounds of close relationship explained in Quran] Ch 24 Verse 30-31.

While we discuss Islamic dress code, we must keep in mind that it is the Islamic Law (Sharia) that defines the Islamic dress code and not the vibrant Muslim cultures that differ from region to region and time to time. Sharia lays out eternal principles of Islamic dress code without giving it specific names or description. There is ample room for innovation and style within the bounds of Sharia. Any dress complying with Sharia requirements shall be considered Islamic.

(c) The material must not be transparent or semi transparent.

(e) The outlook should not resemble the traditional (unique) dresses of non-believers.

2. Specific
