Iguanas Burritozilla
330 S 3rd St
Ste A
San Jose, CA 95112
This Tex Mex restaurant certainly lives up to its name; the size of their burritos, most notably the signature Burritozilla, is staggering. 18 inches and five pounds of tortilla, bean, meat, cheese, and rice goodness, the Burritozilla could easily fill four hungry people and has been used by competitive eater Joey Chestnut to train for his competitions. This monstrous burrito has brought the restaurant to national attention after being featured on the Travel Channel's Man Vs Food. Aside from the giant burritos, patrons also rave about the carne asada fries, full of sour cream, guacamole, salsa, carne asada, and nacho cheese. If you come on a Thursday night, you can enjoy live entertainment with your meal; every week, Iguanas hosts an open mic night that attracts musical artists, poets, spoken word artists, and more.
Taqueria La Bamba
2058 Old Middlefield Way
Mountain View, CA 94043
Though not located in San Jose (but rather the neighboring city of Mountain View), La Bamba is nonetheless a favorite of many San Jose natives. Mexican with a distinctly El Salvadorian touch, La Bamba has been serving South Bay for well over twenty years. This is the place to go for a no frills, deliciously filling eats. One of the top must-try dishes here are the pupusas. Pupusas, an El Salvadorian specialty, consist of a thick maize flatbread stuffed with cheese and/or pork, served with a side of pickled cabbage. Burritos and tacos are filling and made with the freshest ingredients. Try the carnitas burrito for a crunchy, tender, and flavorful meal that will only set you back $7. For a healthier vegetarian option, go for the veggie burrito which consists of rice, buttery smooth black beans, cheese, creamy guacamole, sour cream, and fresh salsa. You even have the choice of different types of tortillas. No wonder patrons from all over the bay drive here to get their burrito fix! Be forewarned though, this place is popular among locals and is absolutely packed during lunch.
Da de Pesca
55 N Bascom Ave
San Jose, CA 95128
Though small, the term hole-in-a-wall would not be accurate in describing this restaurant, as it does not even have walls it is a taco truck! But Dia de Pesca is no roach coach either, evidenced by its fresh and tasty Mexican
