Today's ever-changing global and economical atmosphere require American students of all ages to understand the importance of their education and its effects on their future. Career development is a critical aspect of students understanding of the workplace goals, missions and visions, as well as how they will play into that role. Practical experience, coupled with education and organizational success techniques, and skills are imperative. Exterior and interior education to presentation and conduct should aide in the student's success.

Some of the main functions for a Career Developer within a school system are to create a connection between a student's education and next phase in life, their employment future. The activities used to guide a student's evolution to being an essential element in the labor market are critical for the Career Developer. Thus, demonstrating the connection between their educational career and their future employment is essential. The student's educational foundation is vital to their future. Counselors need to make the student's academic career appealing, as well as applicable in order to prepare them mentally for their life prospects. Intervention programs to mentor and motivate students are critical.

New York State has incorporated career development and occupational studies into its curriculum. There are four main standards, career development, integrated learning, universal foundation skills and career majors. This gives student's not only the opportunity to learn, but also the chance to incorporate their education and future career path. Providing practical work experience and knowledge, in addition to enhancing interpersonal aptitudes and critical thinking dexterity are the goal of career development. Integrated learning applies those skills in a practical work climate. With universal foundation skills, the pupils will exhibit expert knowledge of the establishment skills and competencies, which are crucial for achievement in the organization. Career majors allow student's to focus on a specific career path, acquiring the vital skills required for the chosen occupation.

Teaching students how their academics relate to various careers is the first step in this process. They need to understand employment procedures, what employers are looking for in an employee and how to sustain the position. Every employer has a set of basic skill requirements for potential employee's, such as reading, writing and general math skills. In today's
