Then there is a list of some basic hardware upgrades that can speed your computer up even more.

The first step in the process of speeding your computer up is to clean up old files. With time files that are obsolete get built up and are basically taking up space. The more free space available on your hard drive, the faster your computer can access them. To remove these old files, simply use the disk cleanup wizard. To access the disk cleanup wizard, simple click start, (all)programs, accessories, system tools disk cleanup. You can then choose what files to be removed. Remove all of the Temporary Internet files at least, but it is recommended to remove everything that the cleanup wizard suggest for maximum performance.

The second step should be to de-fragment your hard drive. With time files become fragmented on your hard drive and it can cause serious performance problems. You can read more about what the de-fragmentation process is in this article defragmentation explained. All windows operating systems have a de-fragmentation tool. To use it simply click start, (all)programs, accessories, system tools, disk de-fragmentor. It can take quite a bit of time to def-ragment the hard drive especially if it has never been de-fragmented before. It is recommended to start the de-fragmentor before bedtime or before you go to work and let it work while you are sleeping or working.

Another very important step to speed up your computer is to remove all spy-ware, ad-ware, and most importantly viruses. You should always have a good anti-virus software installed, and never access the Internet without any software! Examples of good anti-virus software are Norton, McAfee, and AVG. AVG has a very nice free version anti-virus program, and it really gets the task done. There are also many good free anti-spy-ware and ad-ware programs available for download on-line. Viruses, ad-ware, and spy-ware infect files on your computer and corrupt them, making your system run slow. It is very simple to accidentally download viruses on-line, but with a little caution it can be avoided. Never open a downloaded file
