I would love to talk to an Indian Chief. Just to be close to one would be an honor. They were one of the few that really stood for what they believed in no matter what.
To be in charge of such a vast amount of people and still care for each one of them. He would take time to talk to the entire tribe about how they came to be, what their beliefs are, and what they would do in life. And most of the tribe would respect and honor his decision even if they did not agree with it. That has definitely been lost with people today. So I would ask him how he achieved such respect?
To start from a young man and work his way up the ranks to chief must have been a task itself. Not knowing whether you would be accepted or not by the old chief much less by the tribe you were about to take command of. I would ask what it felt like to step up to be a real man in charge? And what he thought when he was chosen for the part?
For each tribesmen to ask many things of this one man and he knew the answers to most questions or at least how to get the answers. Through knowledge, the spirits, or other tribe members such as the medicine man. I would ask him how he discovered such wisdom and knowledge?
To have so much land he took care of along with his brethren. Then to lose it to the white man. It must have been a tragedy to fight and then lose after the battles. Just to see your people being killed because they were different. They didn't understand that the white man wanted more and more. They tried to get along until the others attacked. I would ask how he felt to see his land and homes destroyed because they loved it and didn't want to give it up? What he was thinking when his people were killed and tortured for things they didn't understand?
I would really like to ask one of the few chief's left what they think about what we've done to the land and animals in this day and time? I bet they find it as shocking as I do that we can just kill, take, and forget about anything or anyone so easily. It has became so commonplace to see where we were wrong in our decisions back then and even now.
The chief's of long ago are probably turning over in their graves with the way man has changed and the way we treat each other and our world. No wonder most of the spirits have left us on our own. We disgrace and destroy everything we can for no reason. I would just simply ask the chief what do you think? I don't believe I would like his answer after he thought about it and responded. I bet it would be truthful for sure.
