A Dad's Promise

What was my Dad's promise to me

This I will never know because he isn't here

He had to go

My Dad's promise I think would be

To protect and love and always see me as a dove

To care and nurture untill I can fly on my own

I have this feeling I was the center of his thrown

My Dad's promise to me would be

That he would never ever flee

He would be strong and constant and true

I would never be scared cause he would always be prepared

To shelter me from the storm

To wipe away my tears

To hold me close through all my fears

My Dad's promise to me would be

That he would never go away

But if that did happen some day

He would promise to stay close to my heart

Inside there we would never part

My Dad's promise to me would be

For me to stay strong around me like a sarong

To know in my heart that he is always there

To help me deal with my intruding despair

My Dad's promise to me would be

I will never let you go

I will always love you so

I promise to stay forever here

Inside the core of your heart

Where we will never part

This is my Dad's promise to me

At least that's what I think it would be
