How to make your own pore strips

by Lisa Piper

Created on: July 12, 2009

Facial pore strips are great for clearing out your pores and cleaning your face, but the name brand strips can be very expensive. It wasn't long before people decided that there had to be a way to make clear pore strips at home much less expensively. People have tried using everything from glue to duct tape to get the same result as they get from using brand name clear pore strips. Glue and duct tape cannot be good for your skin, but some people are willing to try anything for great skin.

Finally, someone found a way to make the strips much more economical at home with ingredients that you probably already have around your kitchen. This recipe works just as well as the pore strips you buy at the store and is much less painful than duct tape.

First gather your ingredients. You will need 1 tablespoon of unflavored gelatin, 1 tablespoons of any kind of milk, a small microwave safe bowl, a make up brush or a clean paintbrush, a microwave, and some witch hazel.

With the following simple steps, you will have home made clear pore strips that you can use all over your face.

1. Wash your hands. It's impossible to clean your face with dirty hands.

2. Put 1 tablespoon of unflavored gelatin into a microwave safe bowl.

3. Put 1 1/2 tablespoons of milk into the bowl with the gelatin.

4. Mix the gelatin and the milk thoroughly.

5. Put the bowl into the microwave and set it on high for 10 seconds to warm up the mixture.

6. The mixture should now be melted. Give it one more good mix.

7. Apply the mixture to your t zone (across your forehead and down your nose), cheeks, chin, and wherever else you would like to use it. Be sure not to apply it too thick because it won't dry well.

8. Now is a good time to rinse the brush because it will become a sticky mess if it has the opportunity to dry.

9. Let the mixture dry between 15 and 25 minutes on your face. It should be dry to the touch.

10. Carefully peel the strips of your face. Start at the edges and try not to leave any of the clear pore strip behind.

11. Clean the areas that you used the pore strips on with witch hazel.

There you have it. Clear pore strips, at a fraction of the price. They work just as well as the name brand, and your face will feel just as clean. Besides, it's probably a much safer option than those involving duct tape and glue.
