Seth reaches over and takes my hand beneath the table and squeezes it gently. He seems nervous or upset. Could it be that he is disappointed that the summer has come to an end too? Suddenly he stands up. I have an announcement, if everyone could listen for a moment please, I'd greatly appreciate it. Seth says. I wonder if he got the house he was looking at, or if he got a promotion at work, what could be so important that he needs to make an announcement during our last dinner with us all here for the summer? Just then, Seth kneels down next to me. Samantha, from the day I met you, I couldn't take my eyes off of you. I let you slip away then and I won't let that happen now. The past three months have been the most wonderful time of my life. I can't imagine watching you leave tomorrow and not knowing what will happen to us. Samantha, I've fallen in love with you and I want to know he starts. What does he want to know, what, what, don't keep me in suspense any longer. I can't take it, my knees are weak, my stomach is in my throat, I think I'm going to be sick. He holds his hand out and opens a tiny black box. Samantha, will you marry me, be my better half, and grow old with me? he asks, nearly tearing up as the words leave his mouth. Inside the box is a familiar shimmer, it's my Grandmother's ring. Looks like Grandpa had it cleaned and resized. How could I possibly say no to this? Seth, I would be honored to be your wife and to have you as MY better half, and to grow old with you. I blurt out, almost too quickly to realize what I've just said. Wait, did I just get engaged? YIPEE! This truly has been the best summer ever.
With my grandmother's ring on my hand, Seth and I head out for a walk on the beach. Seth, I know this changes things. I'm still supposed to go home tomorrow, and Jane I'm her way home too. I say to him. Well here's the thing. I was thinking that we both go to our respective homes and return to our normal lives for a bit. Sam, remember how I told you I was looking at buying a house? I'd like for you to take a look at it, if you like it well I'd like to go ahead and buy it in anticipation that you might consider moving in with me soon. He replies. I'm struck speechless once again. Words, where are you when I need you? You're joking? You want to buy a house for us to live in? I've still got a year of school left and so do you? I mean I suppose I could transfer, but are you sure you're ready for that? I ask. Oh and by the way, you still need
