As a long time Facebook user, I have noticed some problems with the new platform. In the early days Facebook was devoted to individual pages and friends that I knew. It was great for announcements and new product launches. It was easy to use and rarely caused me any problems with spam. It is easy to see that the new platform is causing many negative effects for recurring members on Facebook.. In their defense, it was only to make Facebook. more integrated as a social networking site which is great, but there are some glitches I wish they would take care of.
One of the biggest problems that has many of the members talking is the new applications that are available now. There are too many that have absolutely no good use whatsoever and of course you are sent app invites every time one of your friends uses one. The only application I am interested in are ones that ALL of my friends are using. Just because someone accidentally clicked on some useless application I shouldn't have to know about it.
What could be an easy fix has become exponentially worse now that members can add unlimited friends when they don't even know their name. So, for users, like me, that have a list of over a hundred friends this obviously makes the invites impossible to deal with and wastes most of my time on Facebook. Deleting unnecessary invites is not much fun. I heard one comment from a member that said, "([insert name] quote generator, anyone?). I mean don't get me wrong it is great that the feature is there for members to write their own code as this could really make life a lot easier for them. However, notifying your whole phone book with an invite to each bit of code you write is not appreciated by anyone, I guarantee you.
Speaking of bugs and glitches. Most applications that I have decided to try unfortunately end up acting like a snow cone and FREEZE. It's hard to tell what is responsible...my browser, my platform, memory issues or the application itself. I tell you one thing... I won't be debugging any errors no matter how much I like the application. In fact, most errors do not even include a pop-up window telling me to send the error to Facebook for debugging. Even Windows does that for us (not that it helps much). Well, at least it's not help that we notice.
Let me close on a positive note. Most of the problems with Facebook are new and I am sure are already being addressed (fingers crossed). Facebook is by far the best social networking site on the web today. After the glitches get ironed out it will be smooth sailing from there.
The only thing you will have to worry about then is posting that picture you doodled in class or at work and finding out it was recently accessed by the school professor or boss you doodled it of.. Happy Networking Yall!
