Short stories: The lifeguard

by Suzi George

Created on: July 12, 2009

I begged my mother for a pool pass. I was sixteen and had a huge crush and it so happened my crush was a lifeguard at the local pool. Reluctantly, she bought me one but only with much convincing I would be exercising. I picked out my hot pink two piece, put on a cover up and headed out. I sighed and closed my eyes wondering why I was doing this. He was just a boy, right? Wrong.

When he stood beside the pool, he was like a god. His sun tanned skin glistened with sweat, beads of it rolling down his chest and over his rock hard set of abs. The muscles in his arms and legs rippled with each move he made. I licked my lips nervously, put my shades on and sat on the edge of the pool. This boy was so incredibly good looking, I don't know why I thought he would give me the time of day unless I was drowning and sadly, the thought of acting as though I needed help had crossed my mind a time or two. I watched through my shades and my heart nearly beat out of my chest with excitement.

His name was Cameron, his hair shone like gold in the sun and he had eyes as blue as the sky. His lips stayed in a permanent natural but sexy pout, full and pink. When he smiled, they were still so sexy it was distracting. Each day, I watched in amazement as he paid close attention to the swimmers and let nothing get in his way. When he left for a break, I secretly watched his tight behind sway past me and sighed. HIs muscular legs were cut to perfection. The lack of chest hair on his hard, sculpted chest was rare but welcome.

I never expected him to acknowledge me in any way so on particular afternoon after returning from a break, when he nodded. Instinctively, I almost turned around thinking it wasn't meant for me but when he added, "hi Kayla," I gulped and squeaked a hello back.

So began our game of cat and mouse. I was elated he did notice me but more than that, I was somewhat leery. I was not ugly by any means but I wasn't nearly as pretty as some of the other girls that openly flirted with him. One day, I was gathering my towel, bag and repacking my bag when I heard a voice say hello. Whipping around in surprise, I nearly dropped my mouth to my knees when I saw it was Cameron.

"Hell..hello Cameron," I said managing a weak smile I could have kicked myself thinking I totally blew it until he asked if he would sit with me.

"Sure." I pointed to a chair that happened to be unoccupied.

Cameron shifted nervously and it took all I had not to reach out
