So you've made it. You are at the top, the pinnacle of adolescence. You're done with kiddy school and are headed to the big league. You are entering high school and for the next year you'll be a rookie in the world of adolescence. But before you panic or jump in enthusiastically, here are some tips to help you survive.
The changes
High school is not hard. It only seems hard during your first year because this is the year of transition. The changes include but are not limited to : more reading, more homework, less help available, and more responsibilities. Freshmen can expect harder books that require the use of analytical or outside of the box skills. They can also expect more tests and exams that encourage critical thinking rather than simple memorization. In high school, the teachers are less likely to go over a problem or further explain a concept. Teachers do this in order to prepare their students for college. However, this does not mean you are completely on your own. Some teachers are willing to help students after class or some schools have special tutoring classes after school. Don't depend on these services too much because they my not be available in college. This dependence might make it harder to transition from high school to college. Overall, the first year of your high school career equals more responsibilities.
You are a child
You are still a child. If you weren't you wouldn't be entering high school, you'd be 21 or older with a job and bills to pay. Recognizing the fact that you are still a child will make your life as a freshman so much easier. In their haste to be recognized as adults, many students take on too many responsibilities during their first year. Do not, I repeat, do not take on all the sports, all the organizations, and all the extra activities. If you do you'll look older and drain your young body. Take it easy, focus on one sport, one-two clubs, and rest as often as you can. Enjoying life is much better than running to and fro in a desperate attempt to imitate adults. Taking on too many activities will tax your body to the point of physical breakdowns, weight gain, acne breakouts and joint problems. Besides all of that, it will be harder for you to pass the freshmen year. This brings me to my second point.
Study like your life depends on it
I know many students have been told that it's ok to goof off during their first high school year and redeem themselves the rest of their high school career. This is
