How to clean full and partial dentures

Full Dentures:
A set of removable artificial teeth that rests directly on the gums.
Did you know that dentures need to be cleaned at least once a day? Plaque (a sticky bacterial film) will form on the dentures just like it does on natural teeth. If the plaque is not cleaned from your dentures daily, the artificail teeth will turn yellow and have an odor.

After you have finished eating your meal, rinse your mouth and dentures with water or mouthwash to remove any food particles that may cause bad breath. You should always take your dentures out of your mouth at night to allow your gums to recover from the pressure of wearing them throughout the day.

Dentures must be soaked overnight in a denture container with denture cleansing solution. When cleaning your dentures (use a soft-bristled brush or a denture brush) do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners-they may scratch the polished denture surface. A denture brush is designed for cleaning denture surfaces.

The round end of the brush is for brushing the inside surfaces and the curved areas and the flat and of the brush is for brushing the outside surfaces. In the morning, before you put the dentures back in wipe your gums with gauze or a wash cloth to remove any plaque that has formed on your gums and then rinse with mouthwash to refresh your mouth.

Partial Denture:

Partial dentures artificial teeth attached to a metal framework with metal clasps that fit onto adjoining natural teeth.

Partial dentures must be cleaned carefully daily in the same manner as full dentures. Partials do not cause tooth decay. Decay develops by not thoroughly removing the plaque from the clasps and from not removing the plaque from around the the tooth that the clasps wraps around.

So before you put your partials in your mouth be sure to brush and floss your remaining teeth.
