Bollywood versus Hollywood: Is Bollywood a copycat?

I don't think Bollywood is a copycat because it has been around since 1899, whereas Hollywood first developed in 1910. Hollywood produces 500 films in a year, whereas Bollywood produces 1000, but it's not consistent. Bollywood seems to be in the lead since 2004. Hollywood has taken over all film industries except Bollywood. Even though Bollywood is very popular, it's not a threat to Hollywood. Hollywood movies doesn't depend solely on ticket sales, which Bollywood may follow. The problem with Bollywood films, is that it's the same idea all the time. There isn't variety. I know I said that I don't think Bollywood is a copycat, but since they are trying to compete with Hollywood, I would have to say they are. Bollywood is trying to have their films be in English to get Americans to watch them. More viewers, more revenue.

There have been a number of Bollywood films accused of plagerising Hollywood films. Indian cinemas are being constantly criticized for their lack of creativity and their redundancy. Every film has the same idea. It's boring. Viewers like change, variety, suspense, action, and romance. Not just one type of film all the time. There were rumors that Bollywood was thinking of creating a movie like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Hollywood made Bollywood understand that the movie would remain as is. No copycating since Bollywood was trying to make a movie just like Benjamin Button. Hollywood threatened Bollywood by taking out ads in Indian newspapers. 20th Century Fox is filing a lawsuit against an Indian film company for making an Indian version of My Cousin Vinny. India is trying to take a piece of what Hollywood is about so yes, I feel Bollywood is a copycat. If you take a look at Bollywood.com you will see they have listings of music out, movies coming soon, and pictures of married couples. Just like Hollywood. There's gossip, interviews, and even a Planet Bollywood. I'm pretty sure they used the same idea from Planet Hollywood. They even have YouTube videos of Bollywood performances of singers. Bollywood is now trying to change their ideas to films that have suspense, drama, and even associated with crime. They even have a website that allows you to rent DVDs on line. Similar to NetFlix and Blockbuster. Overall, I think Hollywood is better, even though, they were created after Bollywood. Bollywood lacks creativity and this is where Hollywood beats them.
