Success in your job- it is something most of us want, but something that many people only half heartedly actually try to obtain. Of course, how easy it is to succeed varies a lot depending on what type of job it is, what is expected, and what your own experience is. It is never going to be easy if you are doing something new or something you lack experience in; but experience comes with time, new things can be learned and workplace pressure will bring most people up to speed pretty quickly. You are never going to get success in the technical aspects of your job from reading something like this. But so many people lack success simply because of one thing: attitude.
Most of us go to work enthusiastic at least for the first week of a new job. But often it doesn't take long to settle into a pattern, whether it be working hard or not, and to get by with what is required with the minimum of fuss. A job is a job; it is always going to be a chore at least some of the time. Where you can really make a difference is your attitude. First of all, particularly in these tough times, you have to think of who is employing you and why. What does this company/business need for success? You are part of that company, so it is a big part of your life. The company isn't employing you to just do your job just so you can get paid. Your attitude should be that the company is your family, on your side, and commands 100% of your focus. Too bad if you hate your job, this attitude applies even if you work at McDonald's. You have to do what helps the company most, regardless of how well or badly they pay you.
This may seem like common sense, but so many people go to work with the attitude that it pays the bills. How can anyone enjoy their work with that attitude? I don't care what you do for a living, it is possible to choose your mood. If you want to be bored of work, sick of work, unhappy at work, indifferent at work, it is your choice. But you won't necessarily get your best day of work done. You can choose to be upbeat, happy, motivated. It is really simple, really easy, and can make a huge difference to your working performance. All it takes is the right attitude and a bit of self-will.
This attitude applies to interactions with your work mates as well. To succeed in all jobs, you need to be able to get on in relationships with your peers and colleagues. Some people will always rub you up the wrong way. If they are your superior, respect them; too bad if they are wrong, if they have a problem with you it is up to you to do something about it. It is easy to avoid or ignore colleagues who you clash with. Avoiding conflict with a bit of diplomacy is usually easier than starting a battle with a workmate in the long run.
The worst thing in the workplace is people who moan. Sure, we all do, but if you have a problem it is up to you to do something about it. Motivate yourself, motivate others for change, but don't moan and spread discontent.
With the right attitude, anyone can succeed in nearly any job. The world doesn't owe anyone a living, so treat your employer and workplace with respect and place their interests and priorities as number one the minor details will sort themselves.
