Humanity is only as significant as the friendship that is developed during one's lifetime. When Brooke Shields took the stage at Michael Jackson's highly anticipated memorial service, her human face represented the embodiment of this amazing icon.
Brooke Shield's connection with Michael was apparent from the moment she stood behind the massive podium. You could tell immediately that her emotional struggle during this memorial service had almost overtaken her. Brooke's eyes welled up with tears before she even spoke her first word. Her heart-felt speech got the entire audience into the mood for the vibrant yet somber service that was to follow.
~A Memorial to Glorify Friendship~
Brooke Shields met Michael Jackson when she was only thirteen years old. Brooke so beautifully described their childhood friendship and blissfully recalled the memories of their relationship. She playfully described the time when Michael tried to teach her how to do the moonwalk. He was the creator of this amazingly popular dance move, and she brought laughter through the crowd as she described how horribly she had butchered the dance. She also told the story of how she had asked Michael about his single white glove. For the general public, the white glove was an unsolvable mystery, but to Brooke Shields it was just an ordinary topic of conversation. In an adorable tone, Brooke recited how she had told Michael that she only wanted to hold the ungloved hand when they walked together. When they were out in public together, they appeared to be a strange and unusually matched couple, but neither seemed to mind. Their love and connection went deeper than any outward appearance could convey.
~A Memorial to Honor Human Emotion~
One of Brooke's funniest recollections was her time spent with Michael before Elizabeth Taylor's wedding. She and Michael snuck into Elizabeth's room while she was sleeping. Brooke described the event as a sneaky one that involved two loving playmates on an adventure. Brooke focused so appropriately on the innocent joy and laughter that Michael had brought into her life. It was obvious that he would be deeply missed by not only his friends and family, but by this lovely companion who had know Michael since childhood.
~A Memorial to Evoke Sympathy~
Brooke continually referred to Michael's soft and loving laughter and his amiable smile. Her emotional stories of past escapades brought a sense of genuine sympathy to the memorial service. Through Brooke's words and tears, you could see the loving and sincere person that Michael Jackson had been. Brooke's speech gave the memorial service audience a glimpse of Michael that few had ever seen. Even through the tears and emotion, Brook Shields was able to portray a carefree recollection of her time spent with the king of pop.
