The special memories and barrier-breaking music of Michael Jackson will live in all of our hearts and minds forever. I was first introduced to Jackson's music at the age of six, when my babysitter listened to the vinyl record of Jackson's, Thriller on my parents stereo. My sitter was Portuguese, and I remember feeling happy, excited and surprised that Jackson could reach across so many different boundaries, cultures and barriers in an effort to reach the world through his terrific mixture of marvelous dancing and songs.
In my opinion, not only did Michael Jackson's music have a rhythm that was unique and catchy, but its message of love, hope, peace and unity are as timeless and relevant in the lives of today's generation as they were at the time of their original release. Mr. Jackson was a true humanitarian as well. He often collaborated with his fellow musicians to raise both awareness and money to bring needed attention to serious social problems.
In April of 1985, the single, We Are The World was released and played simultaneously on radio stations throughout the United States. This important musical collaboration between Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie brought new attention, awareness and funds to the problem of world hunger. Proceeds from the album's sales were donated to various hunger relief organizations throughout Africa and all around the world.
Michael Jackson had a huge heart. Mr. Jackson gave his time, energy, money and tremendous talents in an attempt to make a lasting impact on society that will most certainly be missed for decades and generations to come. It is my hope that the musical artists of today will pick up the torch and take it upon themselves to follow the example of true giving that Mr. Jackson has so generously set for us all.
It makes me so sad that the world was a place of pain, which Mr. Jackson had to fear for his entire life. How disgusting and tragic it is that society feeds symbiotically off of a twenty-four hour cycle of sensational tabloid journalism. Tabloid journalism is cleverly packaged as, hard news far too often.
Instead of allowing ourselves to be overcome by the sadness, negativity, endless speculation, and numerous other questions that are still surrounding Michael Jackson's untimely death, let us rise with a quiet, peaceful and gentle dignity above the chaotic noise and climate of disrespect. Let us choose to remember, reflect upon, and celebrate the life, talent, and giving heart of Michael Jackson. I imagine that Michael Jackson would want his fans whom he loved so very much, to remember him in this positive and encouraging way.
