Advantages of internet

It is of obvious fact that most people always confuse the internet with the 'www'. To make it simple and explanatory, internet can be defined as a global system of inter-connected computer networks that use standardized Internet Protocol Suite (which provides addressing capabilities for computers on the internet).

Distinctively, the 'www' is an acronym identifying 'World Wide Web'. The 'www' is one of the services rendered through the internet. It is a collection of inter-connected documents & resources, linked by hyperlinks and URLs.

The architectural design of the internet was comprised of hardware and an arrangement of software infrastructures, providing connectivity between computers.

With this knowledge, we can now proceed to the merits of the internet.

(1) Communication

The idea of sending messages in form of letters between people of the same society or different society has been made easy with the advent of the internet. Today, mails or letters can travel within seconds through e-mail (electronic mails) and be stored without springing out of another computer network. With the design of the internet, communication is easier and very traceable from either the sender or receiver's end. Internet Telephony is an advantage gained with the help of internet.

(2) Information

In any communication link, the end result is information. A society without information is already dead. Since internet has been brought into play, the users at different ends communicate and get feed-back. This exchange of idea over the network facilitates improvement in this world of government, politics, entertainment, road network and a host of others. Moreso, internet has made areas far-off be drawn nearer more accessible thereby lifting the barrier in communication among individuals and the world at large. Internet is one the factor contributing to the political organization of any society as seen in the campaign of Howard Dean for the US presidential drive in 2004.

(3) Entertainment

The group effort of information brought ahead by the internet has taken people into not only immediate sharing of ideas and skills but also providing people with playing games, multi-media sharing and exercising themselves at their leisure hours. Chat rooms and downloadable movies, music and games are a part of the progress. Some people prefer doing net-meeting while other would want to listen to music or radio online through streaming media on the internet and even to the extent of downloading all.

Many have found it interesting as it creates social impact; some people love it more joining social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace whether to meet their friends or new people.

(4) Services

Most commercial services and activities have all travel the e-ways. All with the advent of the computer, now we can have e-banking, e-commerce and e-trading. Internet has created channels through the web services enabling people to bank from their convenience and even be ensured security and speedy processing. We say much of the auctions online: watching and bidding on products and getting them at our expediency.
