To create our own custom iGoogle theme we need to go to iGoogle page first. If we are loading the page for the first time, it will prompt us to a sub window which will ask us to select our interests, pick a theme and supply our location information. Classic Google theme will be applied If we do not change anything. The default classic theme is the theme we usually use with all other Google services such as Gmail.
Then we have to click on the Change theme from Classic link in the right-hand corner of our iGoogle page. This is the place for changing themes. Change theme from Classic will show if we are using Classic theme, otherwise Classic will be replaced by the name of the theme used.
After that, we will see the page with some good looking ready-made themes that we can select and use. There is also Create your own theme on the right side of the window . There is a link which says "Try now" on the page. We have to click on it to proceed making our own custom theme.
Then we have to upload our image image of choice, or we can also choose an image from within our Picasa Web Album, or specify one web location for an image if we have stored somewhere else.
Total file size should not exceed 40 kbs.
We can make the necessary changes on the picture by cropping it by dragging the selection box after we have selected our picture.
Then its time to click the Apply Changes button.
After cropping our picture, we will see an instant preview. We can also adjust our picture here.
We also have choice to adjust the theme and text color of our like. We can make changes in some attributes here. We can chose text color, theme color and so on.
Although there are not sufficient colors for an advanced theme work, it seems to be quite satisfying for most of the basic users.
Now, its very important to write some description of the theme such as author's name, theme name and some description if we want to make it publicly available.
Then its time to press the Create Theme button.
Of course we must accept Google's Terms of Service to go further. We can decide to publish the theme in Google`s theme directory if we want to make it publicly available. If we do not select this option, the theme will be personal.
We made a nice iGoogle theme if we have done it all, very simple, isn't it? Its very nice to use iGoogle with our own custom theme. As well as, we can personalize iGoogle adding and removing gadgets of our own choice.
