Fanny was so excited about going to visit her Grandmother, she packed her suitcase with enough clothes for several months. School was out, and she did not need to worry about any schoolbooks and homework until next September. Fanny lived with her Parents and two sisters in Chicago, Illinois. Her mother worked as a Civil Rights lawyer and her father was a Dentist. Her parents both grew up in Selma, Alabama they told Fanny and her two sisters how they were very blessed. Her parents grew up living in hard times; Fanny's paternal grandfather marched with Dr. Martin Luther King on the march from Selma to Montgomery. This will be the first time she and her two sisters had the opportunity to spend three months with their grandmother
On a hot summer morning, Granny Bee had just finished milking one of her cows. She knew she needed to finish all of her chores before she and her sons left for the airport to pick up her granddaughters. She was so excited about them coming to spend the entire summer with her. She baked them some cookies and brought plenty of food for their enjoyment. Granny Bee lived in the rural part of Selma, she and her husband raised ten children in a three-room shotgun house. She had five girls and five boys, she and her husband managed to send all of her children to college. All of her children lived in other parts of the United States except her two youngest sons; they both attend college in Birmingham and were home for the summer. Her husband died of a heart attack two years ago with her children all grown up she had become very lonely.
Fanny and her two sisters Kate and Beverly enjoyed flying in the large airport. When their plane landed the Flight Attendant escorted then to waiting area where they saw Granny Bee and their two Uncles John and Paul. Granny Bee hugged them and they all went to the baggage section to pick up their luggage's. They drove for over thirty miles until they came across the newly remodeled two story black and white framed house. Granny Bee older son Bobby own a construction business in Detroit. He came down with some of his workers and torn down the old shotgun house and rebuilt her anew house. They drove down a red dirt drive until they came across Granny's paved driveway. Granny Bee had green grass with red, yellow, and pink rose brushes surrounded the front gate of her home. They parked the car under the white car porch. Fanny open the car door, she looked around and could not believe her eyes. Her
