The US has shown that it can maintain itself as a democracy for over 200 years. With this track record of success, there is no doubt the US will still be a democracy in 50 years.
This is not a fluke. There is a foundation. It's called the US Constitution. The Constitution has embodied US principles for hundreds of years. The Constitution assures a US democracy. There must be checks and balances and different branches of government. The constitution keeps the power in the hands of the people and prevents monarchies and dictatorships.
This system has worked for all these years. Legislators and the President are elected by the people. There is no opposition to this system. Power has been passed for years and years without a hitch. There is no reason to think US democracy will fail anytime in the next 50 years.
Plus, there are state governments that can keep the federal government in check. States are given power by the constitution and can make their own laws and set their own taxes. That keeps democracy alive at a smaller scale. And local elections at the city level are also vital to the democratic process.
Some may wonder if extreme political ideology is a threat to democracy. Sure there are extreme right wingers and left wingers, and fascists and communists, but that is not something to worry about. The political spectrum swings back and forth constantly, and ideas from both sides balance out in the middle. Both sides are heard, and that is taken into account while creating the best plan of action. Communist and fascist movements have never worked in America, and those will not replace US democracy.
A key to any democracy is freedom of the media. The US has extremely free media, and that will keep the government in check. The people can and will be represented through the media by journalist who will ask the tough questions. Also, bloggers can expose any government mistakes, putting pressure on the government to do the will of the people. There is no state media feeding government propaganda to the people.
Furthermore, democracy is fundamentally part of America. From the Puritan work ethic, people are hard working and empowered. People want to be heard, and will be active participates. This is made easier through technology and the internet, where everyone has a voice. The ideals of the American Dream effuse democracy, where everyone has a say and can make it big.
The American Spirit is strong, and American democracy will be strong for many years to come.
