Although lip gloss does in fact have the ease of application without using a mirror, there is something about lipstick that is everlasting and classic. A most basic necessity in every woman's makeup kit, lipstick is a must have for every season and at every age. From brilliant to muted shades, cools and warm tones, with shine or without, the options remain just as wide as the lip gloss variety. However, the sophistication of pulling out an attractive tube of lipstick for a 'mid-afternoon reapply, watching the motion with a sleek, vintage compact stands strong in the beauty world over the casualness lip gloss tube stuffed mindlessly in the back pocket of your jeans. Pressing your lips together to seal the deal is a remembered tradition from every occasion of first date to family reunions to formal galas.

From its inception lipstick has grown and flourished along with the rest of the fashion world. From pouty cupid reds to pop pinks lipstick has been a noted mark of glamour and glitz. Nowadays, with everything from nudes, browns, golds, to even purple mattes there is no trend the trusted tube of color can't match. With each passing fad lipstick can keep a face demure and natural, paint it angelic and sweet, or sultry and sexy. With just the swift slip of the wrist lipstick can challenge a white dress with a pop of color, or add class to an evening gown with a sheer pink.

Even with the glistening shine and the somehow irresistible sticky that lip gloss offers, nothing complements a bad hair day worse than having the strands of your hair stick to your lips. Not to say that I too haven't been drawn in by the attractive powers that a gloss has to offer. Lip gloss is sheer and glistening. It has a way of making one's lips look in a constant state of having just been kissed. But, lipstick, as the ever versatile accessory, can always be updated. Updated with color, or shimmer, or even by combining with its nemesis and by adding a touch of lip gloss over it to take a shade you've grown old of into a bright new look!

Lipstick and lip gloss have always battled it out for a place in our purses but it is lipstick that holds a solid stance on both classic glamour and new-age pretty. Whether being worn alone, updated with gloss, or outlined with a liner; as a mark left behind from a grandmother's peck on the cheek. on the back of an envelope being sent to your lover, or nestled into the weaves of fabric on your boyfriend's collar, lipstick's staying power sticks.
