The Yazoo Brewery used to be known as the Marathon Motor Works. The Marathon Motor Works was known as the first automobile producer in the south between 1910 and 1914, though they were too expensive and lost the market. In 1996 the new owners had decided to move to Nashville to start the brewing company and opened their doors in 2003.

The Yazoo Brewing Company is a great place to visit for any responsible adult as you will be able to sample all their popular beers along with a selection of local cheeses and Provence bread. You will be able to see firsthand what the latest Brewmaster Special is going to be.

Yazoo Brewery has several different beers on tap to sample, such as a Pale Ale, Dos Perros, Hefeweizen, Onward Stout, ESB, and Sly Rye Porter to name a few.

~Pale Ale is a newer version of the American Classic. It's made with a spicy, citrusy hop aroma and flavor discovered from the new Amarillo Hop. It's made with English pale, Munich, Vienna and Crystal malts, Amarillo, Perle and Cascade hops and fermented with English ale yeast. Its best paired with spicy foods such as Mexican salsas.

~Dos Perros is made with German Munich malt, English pale malt, and Chocolate Malt, as well as Perle and Saaz hops. The toasty malt flavors of this beer make it pair up great with barbeque, grilled salmon, caramelized onions and most hot and spicy foods, such as with Mexican and Thai dishes.

~Hefeweizen is made of mostly wheat and Hefeweizen yeast and goes great with any food. Onward Stout is smooth and satisfying made with English pale malt, roasted barley, black patent malt, flaked barley, East Kent Goldings and Target hops and goes great with shellfish, grilled steaks and even chocolate desserts. While Sly rye Porter is a chocolaty Porter that goes great with steak or pork.

No matter what flavor beer you choose you're bound to enjoy every sample you try. The Yazoo brewery does tours on Saturdays when they are not brewing. You can take a tour through the brewery and learn just how they make their beer as well as sample their homemade brews. With each admission you will receive a complimentary Yazoo pint glass. You can also take home a half gallon growler filled with fresh Yazoo beer.

The Brewery has won several awards including Best Microbrewery, Best Local Beer and Best Underground Happy hour, all by the Nashville Scene. The name Yazoo is after the Yazoo River that runs through the owner's hometown in Vicksburg, MS.
