Grandpa's coming for a visit. He should be here any minute," said Daniel, his smile bubbling over from ear to ear.
"It's hard to wait," answered Mom, vacuuming the floor to and fro, her pink apron whipping across her legs. Daniel sat on a wicker basket in front of the door to watch for Grandpa.
At last a figure in a brown hat glided up the driveway, his green and yellow shoes tapping out a jolly jazzy tune.
"It's Grandpa! He's here!" said Daniel.
"Well, let him in," chimed in Mom. "It's starting to rain!"
" Hello, Grandpa," Daniel said, quickly pulling his grandfather through the front door and into the playroom.
"How would you like to go on an adventure with me?" He brought out Granny's old rickety wicker basket that she had given to Daniel for playtime, anytime. Daniel had adventures by traveling through the tunnels that appeared every time he turned the brown basket upside down.
"Through one tunnel," Daniel said, "you can run across a field of floating kites near the ground, take a flying leap, and soar high in the sky for as long as you like! Through another, you can travel with praying mantis pirates as they spin on a
crystal cord suspended above the earth, searching for diamond dust, sapphire stars and ruby orbs."
"Count me in," said Grandpa. "I need a good adventure. It's been a long time since I've had any fun! Do you think there will be room for two?"
"Always is," said Daniel. "Once we place the basket over our heads, it grows to cover us completely. If I have the magic thought, it will happen. It always happens!"
The clown curtains tangled around an open window as the wind blew through the center of the playroom. Daniel and Grandpa crouched on the orange carpet and dangled the rickety basket above their heads. Down went the basket, covering all, and soon Daniel and Grandpa were off on the most exciting adventure of their lives.
At last the bubbling walls surrounding Daniel and Grandpa opened in four different directions, revealing tunnels that shot out sparkling colors of reds and greens.
"Which tunnel shall we take?" asked Grandpa.
"Let's take the second one; it has lots of red sparks to explore," said Daniel.
Swoosh went Daniel and Grandpa down a pearly-lined tube, landing at the end on a squishy bed of bright orange mushrooms. Thousands of twinkling triangles surrounded the blue moon as groups of purple pixie butterflies sailed slowly by.
"May I help you?" asked a ladybug, her antennae carefully tapping on Daniel and Grandpa.
