Remembering 2007 Super Bowl ads

The Best and the Worst of the 2007 "Super-Ads"

Much to my chagrin, the Patriots were bumped out of the 2007 Superbowl by the Colts. I planned on enjoying myself during the Superbowl anyway, by watching amusing commercials and throwing chips at Peyton Manning's face on the television when he would fail at receiving that Superbowl Ring. Boy was I disappointed.

Every year it seems as though the ads get worse and worse. Perhaps this is because the FCC is breathing down everybody's neck. This year was the worst yet, however.

The only time I let out a hearty laugh was during Blockbuster's ad, featuring a rabbit and a guinea pig trying to figure out how to use a "mouse". Of course it didn't work because it was a real mouse, no matter how much they clicked or dragged. The last straw for the mouse was when his tail was almost plugged into a socket.

My other favorite was a Budweiser commercial. That should be of no surprise since they usually dominate the "Super-Ad Bowl". Two guys went to reach for the last Bud. They resolve that Rock, Paper, Scissors would be the deciding factor on who got the beer. One guy flashes his hand out straight, indicating "paper", while the other guy literally chucks a rock at the first guys head and proceeds to take the beer and walk away.

Other commercials that made me smile were two of the Coca-Cola ones. The first was a Grand Theft Auto-like one, with the character doing good deeds instead of the usual rob-the-prostitute-and-steal-c ars thing. Their other commercial that I enjoyed was "Happiness Factory", which showed what the inside of a coca-cola vending machine was supposedly like. It was unique and cute.

Honorable Chuckle-worthy mentions include the Budweisers "Crabs Love Budweiser Too" and "Class Mencia", and Dorito's "Live the Flavor". In fact, "Live the Flavor" was actually made by several young adults as part of a contest. They didn't do too bad considering they made it for under $13 and had only five people working on it. I would say that they did a much better job than some of the junk that aired February 4th, 2007.

By junk, I mean Godaddy, Careerbuilder, Chevrolet, Ford, Salesgenie, Toyota, FedEx...the list goes on and on. But those who get the special privilege of being on the "Super-Dud" list are as follows:

Nationwide- How desperate were you to hire "K-Fed" to star in your commercial? Granted it got a sympathy laugh because he is the laughingstock of Hollywood, so kudos there. But K-Fed...what was going through your head when you agreed to this? I'm certain that Brittany was not impressed.

Sierra Mist- How lame can you be? I'm sorry that I do not find the humor in a "Beard Comb-over" or a "Sierra Defense Class". How about trying something that is actually funny?

"Pride"- The ultimate underdog story/movie. Oh wait, that title is already taken by Rocky I-VI (except V because that was just awful). And just about every other sports-related movie for that matter. Speaking of which, maybe they'll make one about the Colts now.

As bad as the Bears must have felt, they only have a sliver of pity emanating from me. This is because they were playing the game while I was forced to sit through those horrible commercials.
